Magazine cover

This is a magazine cover I create for my final's project.  Since it is a photographer magazine, I would like to show off the photograph, which is a composite imagery from two different photographs.  I intentionally enlarge the contrast on the photos to create a Chinese Painting flavor.  For cover lines, I don't want them to interfere the beauty of the photograph, so I choose "Pictures married to Type" as my layout category.  Most of the cover lines are within a text column on the right.  The primary cover lines are the two feature articles placed on the left along the dock  The sizes of the type are modest to avoid intruding the image.

Masking Technique

I used masking technique to composite two different imagery, the Egg and myself, into this city park background which was shot at my home town, Kaohsiung, in Taiwan.  I intentionally applied color pencil effect to make the background park view look like a big wall painting to contrast the two selected objects.

Using Text as a Clipping Mask

I tried two different ways with Type Mask Tool.  The upper one is a cutout type filled with red on a colorful background; while the one below is tinted black and white background with reddish colored type.

Pop Dots

This is the photo I took at the Mission of San Juan Bautista.  The statue with both hands stretching up to the sky makes quite a statement.  I like the clear blue sky and choose its complementary color--orange to do the Pop Dots effect.

3D Type with Repousse

The purpose of this graphic is using Repousse technique to apply on Type in order to create a 3D effect. Here, I put 6 different images together to express the Anti-War message about the recent chaos in Libya.  The 3D effects make the Type "STOP" exaggerated  is quite suitable for my intention.

surrealism

This surrealist graphic was inspired by the artist Vladimir Kush's painting, "Fashionable Bridge", which is posted below. Kush painted a pair of red high-heeled shoes as an arch bridge connecting two banks. The outline of the bridge was curvy and elegant with people and carts on it.  The artist twisted a pair of shoes with the function of a bridge and created a surrealist world that beyond my imagination.  I admire his works very much.

In my graphic, I used seven different elements, one background bitmap image of  high mountain and country land, one sunset view, on top of which with another bitmap of egg yolk, and the 4th bitmap is the  clouds in the sky flowing as a river. Then, I used my vector graphics of bananas and watermelons as sailboats, and added a couple of sliced star fruit as stars which both in bitmap and vector images.

Mid-Term

Tower of London
The Tower of  London is a major tourists' attraction of London, and luckily I had a chance to visit in last June.

Tower of London was built by William the Conqueror to protect London and declare his power as well in 1078.  It was expanded around the White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name, and was constructed through several phases under kings Henry III and Edward I in the 12th and 13th centuries. It has served variously as a royal palace, an armory, a private zoo, a home of the Royal Mint, a public records office, and so on. It was the home of the Crown Jewels of United Kingdom since 1303, which is a fascinating exhibition now in the museum.  The Tower of London was regularly used as a prison since 1100, and the most famous prisoner to be at the Tower was Princess Elizabeth.  She was there for eight weeks before she became Queen Elizabeth I in 1558.

The images I used to composite in this poster are William the Conqueror on the top left-hand corner, Elizabeth I on the bottom left, the Imperial Crown of India on the bottom center, two statues of armory on the bottom right, and the White Tower in the center.
